Why are there various databases and reports for the same product?

Products and Markets are defined by the level at which the product is output or sold. Thus reports will exist for a particular product at the manufacturing level, i.e. the market level at which a manufacturer sells; and reports will also exist for the same product at a wholesale and a retail level. The market value of the product will of course vary according to the market level analysed. Readers should ensure that they are fully aware of the market level at which a report is providing data.

Why are there various databases levels for the same products and markets?

Data Product levels

The sheer volume of data potentially available from DataGroup has made it necessary to create a number of product levels which can provide clients with as little or as much data as they need.

Entry level

Entry level products provide the most basic degree of information supplied by DataGroup. This product can be used to build upon for various business forecasting and planning application. Typically for a World Report this level will produce a database and spreadsheet count of over 13,000 record sets. Each recordset, if converted into a graphical representation, will itself produce between 1 to 300 individual graphs.

Corporate Modelling level

The Corporate level modelling products provide the tools and information for medium and long term corporate forecasting and planning. These products are bespoke and are specific to the client company in question. Typically for a World Report this level will produce a database and spreadsheet count of over 24,000 record sets. Each recordset, if converted into graphics, will itself produce between 1 to 450 individual graphs.

Econometric Modelling level

The Econometric level modelling products provide the tools and information for industry level, national, and international medium and long term forecasting and planning. These products are bespoke and are specific to the industry and/or geographic reach of the client company in question. Typically for a World Report this level will produce a database and spreadsheet count of over 39,000 record sets. Each recordset will produce between 1 to 550 individual graphs.

Presentation level

The Presentation level products provide the information sought by a client company in a graphical or audio-visual format which is bespoke for the particular needs and applications of the client company in question.

Why are the report pages formatted into frames and tables?

The report pages are produced in frames and tables, rather than more dynamic web pages, to allow users to directly use the pages in printed documents. Users may open any of the '.html' pages as a Word Processor page and then edit and save it to a print document or other file type.

Does the forecasting methodology take 'Climate Change' into account?

The forecasting methodology for both market and financial forecasts does take the potential effects of climate change into account. The United Nations, OECD and various other forecasting models will in future provided some 'Climate Change' indicators in their forecasts, however these forecasts tend to be politically influenced. The DataGroup forecasting methodology uses scientific forecasting models to attempt to evaluate these factors and then project their effects on supply and demand.   See Climate Change

What are the forecasts for Supply and Demand Pricing of Commodities, Fuels and Energy?

An essential part of the DataGroup forecasting models is the effects of Supply and Demand Pricing of Commodities, Fuels and Energy and these are included in the market and financial forecasts for goods, supplies and services.

There are separate DataGroup forecasts produced for Materials, Supplies, Fuels and Energy. These databases are available for each product.

Are the various database sources  and publishers compatible?

All DataGroup / Data Institute databases and sources are now compatible and may be used without any conversion routines.  See Harmonisation of databases and specifications.

Why are there restrictions on some database, reports and resources?

All DataGroup / Data Institute products are essentially intended for the use of Account Holders.  Account Holders have the possibility to restrict the distribution of databases and resources to other non Account Holders, as part of their contract with DataGroup / Data Institute. In general Account Holders can deny information and resources to their competitors because if one denies one’s competitors access to commercial intelligence one creates a commercial advantage for oneself.  Furthermore, DataGroup / Data Institute have agreements with some national governments to withhold certain data in certain circumstances.  See Restrictions
